Ride Information

Rides are listed in alphabetical order, by ride name if provided, or else by organizer.

NOTE: "Start time" is when a ride is supposed to get underway.  You should arrive a few minutes beforehand—early enough to get signed up, set up, pumped up, and mounted up.  By start time you should be on your bike, helmet on, ready to roll.  Showing up at the last minute, and expecting others to wait while you get ready, is inconsiderate, and might well get you left behind.

Every Other Saturday Ride
(David & Janie Myers - Cincinnati Cycle Club)

Start time is usually 9:00 a.m. during the warmer months, and 10:00 a.m. during the cooler months, with the switch occurring roughly about the change between Standard Time and Daylight Saving Time.  The schedule provided here is subject to change without notice, so take seriously the instructions to contact the leader beforehand to learn of any changes.  =SAJ=

We leave from the Bicentennial Commons/AK Pavilion on the Miami river and ride on scenic country roads to Germantown. We will stop for brunch in Farmersville or Germantown before our ride back to Middletown. We normally have enough riders to split into 2 speed groups and take routes that allow us to all arrive at the restaurant at about the same time. Our faster group rides an average of about 15-16 and the slower group is about 12-14 mph. There will be a couple long climbs, a couple long downhills (30+ mph if not braking) along with rolling hills. Ride distance is 34 - 37 miles depending on which group you choose to join.

If you have never been to the ride before, please take a look at the map in the link below before starting out. I've had past reports of a couple riders having trouble finding the start and missing the ride. Also you may not see many cars when you get to the starting location. Many of our riders are local and literally ride down the street 5 minutes before the start.

Enter the following address into
http://maps.yahoo.com/ or http://www.mapquest.com to see the starting location
100 S Carmody Blvd
Middletown, OH

Novice riders welcome. No one left behind!
Helmets are required to join the ride.

I'll have my cell phone on to guide you in if you get lost coming to the ride start - 513-292-1710
We'll leave promptly at start time, so try to be on time.
David Myers

Rides shown in gray have not yet been scheduled with the Dayton Cycling Club.
Please note color-coded start-time changes in the early and late parts of the season.
*Indicates reduced distance, 16-28 miles.
Unfavorable weather conditions at start time cancel the ride. (See "Conditions.")
  • Dates & Times: During the peak season (15 May - 17 Aug), start time is 6:30 p.m.  Before and after this period, start times are earlier.  See table above.  All times are Eastern Daylight Time, unless otherwise noted.
  • Start: Sunset Park, Middletown, OH--corner of Bellemonte St. & Miami Av.
  • Route: 30-mile loop (May-August) through Sunbury, Carlisle, and Franklin, with no stops
(Route is progressively shortened in late September and October.)
  • Speed: 14-17 mi./hr. average (speed increases as season progresses)
  • Terrain: flat to rolling; one long, gentle-to-moderate grade, one steep but short climb
(variations of the route during September and October may entail more climbing)
  • Traffic: mostly light and rural; light urban in Middletown and Franklin; one highway stretch riding broad shoulder
  • Conditions: no rain, temperature 60 - 95° F, wind less than 20 mi./hr.
  • Club Mileage: Rides from May through September are on the Dayton Cycling Club schedule, and earn club mileage points.  Rides earlier or later than this period are not on the club schedule, but can be ridden "just for fun" whenever weather permits.

Again, please note that start times change in mid-May and mid-August.  This is to allow ample time before sunset to complete 30 miles averaging 15 m.p.h.  (Though it rarely happens, a mechanical or traffic problem could delay us until after dark.  Therefore, when the margin is narrow, riders are encouraged to bring head- and tail-lights, just in case.)

All rides should be considered tentative, since changeable weather or unforeseen schedule conflicts occasionally interfere. It would be wise to contact me not later than one hour prior to ride time, especially if you must drive in from out of town.
